- In the OLD COVENANT, a call of Yah to His servants and His people is part of gracious dealing with mankind. A divine call that Abraham, Moses, Bezalel, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel and other eminent servants of Yahweh fulfilled the tasks committed to them. The Word refers to Israel when thus called “the people of Yahweh,”, but prophets complained they refused to listen and stopped their ears so that they should not hear. Prophets had visions of the calling of the Gentiles into the covenant and service of Yahweh. In the epistles, particularly Paul’s, there is found a more definite meaning of the word as the call of Yahweh to the blessings of Salvation. It is intimately associated with the eternal purpose of Yah in human redemption. See 1588 – the chosen, the elect – which are those invited to the gospel Feast and are the more select company who had heard and accepted. In the epistles, the called are the chosen. They are those called out of the darkness into His marvelous light. Thus, the choosing is included in the calling. With Peter and Paul, the calling is more than an invitation. It is an invitation responded to and accepted. It refers to those who had an effectual call.
Strong’s 2821 – klesis – A call, invitation to a banquet. A call, invitation to the Kingdom of Yahweh and its privileges. We are to consider the circumstances of our call, the factors involved in your call. It is Yah invitation to man to accept the benefits of His salvation is what this calling as all about, particularly in the gospels. This calling is a Set-apart calling that comes from Yah, not according to our works, but according to his purpose. We are to make our calling and election sure. Our calling is not obtained without labor and conflict.
